Whitewater State Park (19041 MN-74, Altura, MN 55910) is 3 miles south of Elba, MN. It’s about 1 hour and 45 minutes southeast of the Twin Cities by car. If you’re flying in, we’d recommend flying into Minneapolis/St. Paul. If you’d like to carpool, take a look at the carpool spreadsheet linked below.
The park entrance is on State Highway 74. These directions, courtesy of Google, are great. If you’re in the mood for a longer, more scenic drive, you could take this route on Highway 61 along the Mississippi River. It’ll add about an hour to your drive, but passes through Red Wing Minnesota (home of Red Wing Shoes) and Frontenac State Park.
If you’re flying in to Minnesota the only solid airport option is MSP. The Metro Transit Blue Line runs north-south from the airport to downtown Minneapolis, with lots of stops in between. If you’d like to carpool from the airport to the park, check out the carpool spreadsheet below.
If you would like to carpool, first check this spreadsheet to see if anyone is in need of passengers. If you’re driving down and you have extra space in your car, please enter your name in the spreadsheet as well!
